Scientific Research Ethics

Our program activities with respect to "Scientific Ethics and Responsible Conduct of Research" are the following:

a) All students entering the Graduate Program at Wesleyan University participate in a two-day orientation program which includes a workshop scientific ethics and diverse aspects responsible behavior in professional settings. Topics include the scientific and legal responsibilities of keeping accurate research records in a laboratory notebook, the responsibilities of student and mentor in graduate studies, issues of coercion and harassment, and how to handle violations of the code of standards responsibly from various points of view.

b) We have prepared a document that is distributed in print copy to all trainees each year entitled "Guidelines on Scientific Ethics and Conduct of Research in the Molecular Biophysics Program at Wesleyan University," developed with reference to Guidelines for the Conduct of Intramural Research Programs at NIH  and the current NIH Ethics Program Web
